Why does my daughter get red in the sun even though she has on sunblock?!

Why does my daughter get red in the sun even though she has on sunblock?
I noticed today that when we were outside that she was really red, we came in, and it went away a little, but I always put on sunblock 50spf and I put it on way before we even go outside. I am not sure why her skin gets so red?!?
Answers:
ok this happens to me a lot and i'm asuming it's cuz i have a natural tan and my skin racts to the heat by turing red.
