Low blood platelets during pregnancy!?!

Question: Low blood platelets during pregnancy!!?
I spent all day yesterday in the hospital because my blood sugar was extremely high & because my blood platelets count was extremely low!. Does anyone know what causes this!?!
I know it's fairly common for women who become pregnant to have a lower platelet count then before pregnancy!. But before I was pregnant, my level was 154 & now it has dropped down to 85!? They said it could be dangerous for me while giving birth!?! Just wondering if anyone knows anything more about this, or what could be causing it!. I looked it up on a few websites & they said it's normal for it to drop down to 120 or something while pregnant but mine is 85!!?!!?! Just a little concerned, if anyone knows anything about it please help fill me in here!! Thank you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

While I don't claim to have a lot of information on low platelets counts during pregnancy, I believe it is connected to increased volumes of plasma causing a lower concentration of platelets!. In some cases it's also connected to lower iron absorption which can be helped with iron supplements!.

I'm taking a guess here, but if your blood sugar has been significantly high it's plausible you have at least the makings of gestational diabetes!. If this is the case, and your doctor will be watching for it so you can ask away and probably get the information you need, it's possible it's interfering with the development of blood cells!.

Gestational diabetes is a form of insulin resistant diabetes, which means that while your body might be producing plenty of insulin, either the receptors or the insulin molecules have changed shape and no longer fit properly together!. This can cause all kinds of odd biological effects, pretty much all of which are temporary and manageable!.

In any case, some of your standard, happy-go-lucky endocrine systems go a little haywire during pregnancy and have cascading effects on all kinds of bodily functions!. Red blood cell production just happens to be one of them!.

Call your doctor and check in, but in all likelihood there's something fairly simple that you can do to improve your platelet counts!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
