What does a colposcopy do?!

Question: What does a colposcopy do!?
I'm a girl!. My main concern is that I might have herpes!.

First off, I already have an appointment scheduled to find out!. I'm getting a colposcopy and an STD test on Monday!. But that's two days away I'd just like to try to figure out how likely it is that it might be herpes, so please, don't just answer, "Go to a doctor!" That doesn't help!.

The only way I could have herpes would be from my ex boyfriend!. We had broken up last year and got back together for a few months, April to June, before we broke up again!. We had sex about six times in the course of about two months, and had no more sex after that (semi-long distance)!. We used a condom twice (I'm on the ring)!. He had sex with another woman about a week before we started dating!. He had a clean bill of health before that (he had to, he got major surgery right before that)!. The woman he slept with has not been diagnosed with herpes!.

I had a pap smear and got a letter saying there was something irregular and I need to get a colposcopy and a biopsy!. I have no idea what a colposcopy is (and that's the accurate spelling, it's not a colonoscopy), but I know what a biopsy is!. When they recommend a colposcopy, what does it check for!?

Until a yesterday I didn't even consider herpes (I got the pap smear in April and scheduled the colposcopy in May)!. Then I got this bump, right on the inside of my vagina!. It's not an open sore, it doesn't have pus, it's just an itchy bump!. I'm praying it's just a flea bite because with three dogs and the fact that I often sleep in just a shirt, it's entirely likely!. But I'm still unable to sleep because I'm worried!.

So ultimate questions:
Would a pap smear detect herpes within a month of contracting it!?
What is a colposcopy for!?
Is this itchy red bump more likely a sign of herpes or would I more likely have other symptoms as well!? I haven't had any yeast infections or bladder infections, I haven't felt sick, I've been feeling totally fine!.
Am I just being paranoid!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
You're having a colposcopy because they found abnormal cells in our pap smear!.!.!.this does not necessarily mean you have herpes!. But you probably do have HPV!.!.!.!.which I believe one in three women have!.

I had a colposcopy about 2 years ago and it really wasn't that bad!. Some women say it hurts, others say they felt nothing!.

I didnt feel anything except a little cramping afterward!.

Basically, a colposcopy is a test where your doctor will go pretty far in you (around y our cervix) to get samples of cells higher in you!. This is done just to see what the problem is!.

Usually, colposcopies and biopsies are done to test for pre cancer cells or HPV cells!.

I would say it's most likely you have HPV (Human Papoloma Virus)!. This is an STD and the most common one!. Sometimes your body will rid itself of the HPV virus (mine did, thank goodnesss)!. And sometimes it can stick with you for years!. Eventually, it can possibly turn into pre cancer cells, but dont worry about that right now!.

You would know if you had herpes!. If you have bumps around your vaginal area, than yes you probably have herpes!. But doctors would not call you in for a colposcopy if you had herpes!. They would tell you that when you got the letter and would call you in for another appointment to put you on medications that help slow your herpes outbreaks!.

I would say you have HPV!. But don't get too worried about this!. If you are young and healthy, your body will probably rid it on its own!.

Just be sure to take at least 2 ibprufen before you go to the doctor so that your cramps wont be so bad when you're done!.

Good luck

Could it be HPV!? Www@Answer-Health@Com

Unless you're one of the few people that dont have serious outbreaks, you would know if you had herpes!. Especially with the first outbreak since it's usually the worst one!. A pap can not detect herpes, only cervical changes and other feminine issues!.

Do you shave!? Is it possible that it's an inflammed hair folicle!? A colonoscopy is the endoscopic examination of the large colon and the distal part of the small bowel with a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera on a flexible tube passed through the anus!. It may provide a visual diagnosis (e!.g!. ulceration, polyps) and grants the opportunity for biopsy or removal of suspected lesions!.

Virtual colonoscopy, which uses 2D and 3D imagery reconstructed from computed tomography (CT) scans or from nuclear magnetic resonance (MR) scans, is also possible, as a totally non-invasive medical test, although it is not standard and still under investigation regarding its diagnostic abilities!.

Furthermore, virtual colonoscopy does not allow for therapeutic maneuvers such as polyp/tumor removal or biopsy nor visualization of lesions smaller than 5 millimeters!.

Hope this helps!. Good Luck!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

No a pap smear usually wouldn't detect herpes that quick!.
A colposcopy checks for any Polups, and any thing unusual in your digestive tract!. The bump could be 100 different things, and I wouldn't be freaking out until you have everything done, There is power in POSITIVE THINKINGWww@Answer-Health@Com

Hi,

There are so many causes of yeast infections which is why so many people get them unfortunately! But there are ways of getting rid of it!. When I first got it I went straight to the doctors and he suggested creams etc which got rid of it at first but it kept coming back no matter how many different products I tried!.

In the end I did some research on the internet and found a website with a completely natural way to get rid of it for good and, touch wood, I haven't had it again since! I hope this works for you too! If you want to give it a try you can find it at http://www!.QuickYeastInfectionCure!.com

Don't worry - I found a great cure and you will too!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Colposcopy is a medical diagnostic procedure to examine an illuminated, magnified view of the cervix and the tissues of the vagina and vulva!. Many premalignant lesions and malignant lesions in these areas have discernible characteristics which can be detected thorough the examination!. It is done using a colposcope, which provides an enlarged view of the areas, allowing the colposcopist to visually distinguish normal from abnormal appearing tissue and take directed biopsies for further pathological examination!. The main goal of colposcopy is to prevent cervical cancer by detecting precancerous lesions early and treating them!.

Methods of testing for genital herpes include diagnosis by:

* Viral Culture
* Serologic tests (Blood tests)
* Antigen Tests

Some clinics will use diagnostic tools other than the recommended tests!. Among these, two are generally not recommended; the Tzanck test and the Pap smear, neither of which is a specific test for herpes!.

Tip: If you have active symptoms and the sores have not yet healed you should ask your Doctor for a specific virus culture or assay for the herpes virus!.

Blood tests are generally used in cases where no visible symptoms are present!.

In order to confirm a diagnosis of a Genital HSV infection it is necessary to prove the presence of the herpes simplex virus!.

Because it is possible for a person with genital herpes to have another sexually transmitted infection at the same time, a full genital check should be made!. For women this may include a cervical smear test!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
