Thyroid Disease and Meds?!

Question:

Thyroid Disease and Meds?

Does anyone know if Cytomel can be taken on a full time basis instead of Synthroid. It seems most doctors are sold on Synthroid being the only drug to treat underactive thyroids. I have tried that and Armour and neither drug has me feeling all that much better. My doctor does not want to prescribe it for me saying Synthroid is the best. I disagree

Answers:

First thing I can think of is was the Armour adjusted the same way as the Synthroid? Armour is not supposed to be adjusted by TSH. It is supposed to be adjusted by the free t4 and free t3 blood tests. Below are some links on Armour

Many endos will use Cytomel with another T4 medication, but not many will use it alone. I know many people who are hypothyroid and only one is on Cytomel alone.

I've been on Levoxyl and it did nothing for me. I then added 5 mcg'sof Cytomel to the Levoxyl and it helped with about 75% o my symptoms. I switched to Armour getting it adjusted by FT4 and Ft3 and it helped 96% of my symptoms
