The top of my left toe is slightly numb. Diabetes?!

Question: The top of my left toe is slightly numb!. Diabetes!?
For the past half year, I've had pain on the top of my left foot and I just assumed it was a hairline stress fracture because I have a low arch and ballet flats are in :-P!. The past 2 1/2 weeks just the top of my big toe has gone slightly numb!. I definitely can feel pressure and when I poke at it with a fingernail!. I had a physical within the year, and blood sugar was a little high but no major warning for diabetes!. I have gained weight, but does diabetes come on this fast!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
diabetes CAN come on "that fast", but the PAIN from diabetes (diabetic neuropathy) take months of being "out of control"!.

If your blood sugar reading was a little high, you're probably OK, and need to have that toe looked at by the doctor!.

Continue to have your blood sugar monitored at least once a year!. Have the doctor do the A1C test instead of the "finger stick" test!. Since the A1C test became available, the "finger stick" test is no longer considered a good test for DIAGNOSING diabetes!. [The "finger stick" test is used to CONTROL diabetes by those that are diabetic]

You most likely have nerve damage, but it's not from diabetes!. Probably you did break the foot--and the nerve was damaged then!. I'd see a podiatrist--and maybe get some insoles made for yourself so you can wear those cute little flats and not have to worry about further damaging your arches!. ;)

I would be more concerned about your footwear at this point than about your blood sugar!.

Not likely!. Type two diabetes comes on very slowly!. Plus, you have to have a pretty high blood sugar level for some time before neuropathy sets in!. Also, it's usually preceeded by tingling!. In addition, you would most likely have experienced some of the other symptoms first!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
