Do you have to use the right brand blood sugar test strips?!

Question: Do you have to use the right brand blood sugar test strips!?
I have a family history of hypoglycemia and thought I'd buy a blood sugar test kit just to see where I'm at!. I've found a *HUGE* range in prices from $10 to $150 for the monitor!. In addition each claims you can only use their brand test strips and the prices on the strips vary just as much!. Can you mix and match brands of monitors and test strips or do you really need to stick with one manufacture!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
You can not mix meters and strips!. However, Wal-Mart has a meter for under $20 and the strips are very reasonable!. I hear good things about the meter!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Each meter must use its own test strips!! they cannot be mixed and matched!.

On the meters, watch the ads!. Most of the companies are currently giving away starter kits!. I just got one from Accu Chek!. The Aviva is right with the labs I go to!. I also got the One Touch Mini in green!! It is one of the top meters and now has down load capabilities!. It is right with the labs!.

One thing!! to get the strips without breaking the bank, you need for your doctor to say you are diabetic and must have a meter to test!. This helps lots of ways!. Insurance will cover the cost of most of the strip which start at $1/strip and go up!. Pre diabetes diagnosis doesn't get you a Rx for the strips so the insurance will cover!.

Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Most brands and their test strips are designed to use together, not mix and match!. Even within a brand, different style meters have their own strips!. Using another brands strips, even if they fit, will possibly give wrong results!.
