My partner suffers an allergy (we think) everytime he goes outside?!

Question: My partner suffers an allergy (we think) everytime he goes outside!?
For the past few days, every time my partner goes outside his face will swell up, his eyes begin watering and he gets a runny nose!.

It has never happened before so he is going to the doctors on Wednesday (earliest he could get in)!. In the meantime, is there anything he can use to reduce the swelling!?
The pharmacist has gave him an antihistamine, but it seems to of made the swelling worse!.

When he is indoors for 2 hours or more, his face is normal with no swelling, though he does have a slight rash around the cheekbones!.

Also, would the doctors do some sort of allergy test on Wednesday!? How would this be done, is it sample of "popular" allergies put on his arm or something!?
(Sorry I seem so unaware, I actually don't know anyone who has an allergy!)

Any advice!?
Thanks!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Interesting one!. It does sound like an allergy, but it could be to absolutely anything in the air, so there may be some difficulty identifying it!.

I actually don't think the antihistamine would of made it worse, I'm guessing you walked from the chemist to your car/house - perhaps causing another flare-up but thinking it is the antihistamine!?

Yes, usually doctors will do an allergy test, testing various "materials" on the back, sometimes it is done on the arm too!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Does this happen just in your yard, or outside of your home!? The reason I ask is if there are lawn treatments going on or a lot of landscaping, where pesticides are used, he could have a pesticide allergy!. Or it could be a skin condition that is being aggravated by the sun!. I would give Benydrl a shot, it really works well!. As far as the testing, yes they will give him the standard arm allergy test first and see if they come up with anything!.
Good luck and I hope the doctors appt!. goes well and gives you some answers!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would suggest making an appointment with an allergist, as well, since it can take weeks (sometimes) to get in!. You can always cancel if you need to!. That is who does the testing!. Not much they can really do, but identify the culprit, since it is most likely airborne!. There could be other factors, too!. Like, is there recent construction in your area!? (ie: dust!?)
Benedryl is always suggested by allergists, and the newest thing on the block (prescription-wise) is Xyzal!. It's the latest and greatest!. See if the doctor will prescribe that if your partner does have allegeries (which it sure sounds like)!.
If the allergens are identified you can always go to the pollen!.com (or similar) website to see when that particular pollen/allergen is "high" for your area!. Even your local weatherman may have it on his webpage!.

Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

INTERESTING something is in the air, what kind of trees or plants are prevalent , everything is dying off so ragweed season is common, eatting honey does that help hot water with honey and lemon!? AC is purified filtered air so get a hepa filter in your bedroom and vacuume cleaner, get rid of house plants it might be moldy soils try allergy eye drops, allergy cold non drowsy formula , benedryl does not work for me , i get restless legs at night, so stop eatting wheat products eat oatmeal , grits, rice products no MSG no gluten no wheat , try soy milk as cows eat grasses so i'm on a gluten free menu as i have intolernces Www@Answer-Health@Com

OK - your partner has one SERIOUS reaction to whatever it is he's allergic to!. Anything that makes the face swell needs pretty urgent attention so good on you for getting him to the GP for Wednesday!.

It's quite unusual for antihistamine to cause things to worsen, unless he's sensitive to that as well!.

Do you have a front garden or plants directly outside your front door!? This sounds to me like a hypersenitively to a pollen to me and the doctor will use a "patch test" to see exactly whats causing teh problem!. What this is is a strip that's applied to teh skin, usually the arm, which contains gel circles!. Each gel is impregnated with the marker protein of the allergen (the thing that's making your partner react)!. When in contact with the skin, the body reacts to the protein marker of the substance it doesn't like and causes a very locaised response (usually goes red and itchy)!. The Doctor can then sort out the best treatment!.

The face swells in teh laces it does because of the placement of "marker cells" in the airway, so you want to reduce the amount of allergen breathed in!.

In the meantime, an old trick I used to suggest to suffers was to wet a hankercheif or napkin thoroughly!. Fold it over several times (say four or so) and hold it over your nose and mouth!. Breathe through the wet material (may be both a little strange and a little awkward) but use that until you are clear of the front of your house!. Assuming it's a local environmental thing and not a general allergy to sunlight or something like that, once clear of the allergen field, you should be able to take the cloth away and not be as affected as if you'd walked through the cloud of pollen, etc!.

Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com
