Question: What is a "referral"!? I have to go to my doctor to get one for a Dermatologist!.!?
I am going to a Dermatologist, but my mom said we have to go to this doctor to get a referral!. What exactly will happen!?

When you see your primary physician, he will ask about your condition and then he will "refer" you to another doctor!. basically, he will determine who the best doctor for you to see is and he will contact that doctor and let him or her know about your situation!. Then you and your mom will have to make an appointment to see that doc!. Basically, it's a way for you to get the best healthcare!.!.!.by a doctor who may specialize in the particular health care you need!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Some insurances require a referral from your Family Physician before going to a specialist!. So first you see your Family Dr and pay money, then they tell you they can't help you so they refer you to someone who can and then you pay them money!. It's another way to get more money out of people!. This basically means that your doctor will give you/your dermatologist a recommendation!. This is basically because dermatologists can be very expensive and very busy!. You have to go to your pcp and get an ok to go or an authorization (which is the tech name)!. Your doctor's office has to call your insurance company to get an authorization number for you to go so they will pay your dermatologist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
