Question:

Brief outline the parasympathetic v sympathetic system (no links) and how it ties in with the peripheral/centr

Answers:

It's tough to be brief. Think of the sympathetic system as a response to an outside stimulus (fight or flight) and the parasympatheic as the brake to that fight or flight. Parasympathetic tends to control "normal" body needs ... digestion, normalizing blood pressure, calmness. The sympathetic kicks in during response to a need. The peripheral nervous system is the nerves that are outside the brain and spinal cord. The Central Nervous system is your brain & spinal cord ... like the "main control" ... so ... your body would receive a stimulus through the peripheral system, it transmits the information to the central nervous system. Your central nervous system decides what kind of response is needed and sends out orders to activate the sympathetic or the parasympathetic system. The peripheral nervous system receives those orders and activates the appropriate response. Hope that helps you understand it a little bit.
