I have low blood oxygen, Question?!

Question: I have low blood oxygen, Question!?
Hey guys, i'm 18 (male) and have a heart/lung problem!.
I was reading on here about low blood oxygen (mines like 80ish)
and someone said if its 80 or below then you have mental problems!.
I was wondering if that is true, and if so!.!. It does not seem to represent me!.

Thanks Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like you have a congenital heart problem that results in cyanosis (bluish tint)!. Many are caused by right-to-left cardiac shunts!. Certain conditions require early surgery!. Others cause minimal symptoms and can be followed with close observation for signs of progression!. This sounds like your situation!.

There are several ways people develop a low oxygen saturation (SO2) (hypoxemia)!. These include right-to-left shunts, mismatching between lung ventilation and blood perfusion (V/Q mismatch), high altitude, lung disease preventing proper gas exchange, and inadequate breathing!. Aside from shunting, most of the other causes occur more rapidly!.

An SO2 in the 80's is low, but is compatible with life and normal mental function!. However, acute respiratory illnesses can cause the SO2 to worsen!. Also, you should avoid traveling to areas of very high altitudes (such as Mt!. Everest)!.

You should continue to follow up with your heart doctor regularly!. If you develop trouble breathing, chest pains/tightness, fainting/near fainting, or other worrisome signs, contact him immediately!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

80 what!? mmHg or % !.!.!. I need to know if your talking about the PaO2 (pressure of oxygen in the arterial blood) or the SpO2 (oxygen saturation via a pulse oximeter) !.!.!.

In some conditions !.!. blood oxgen saturation (SpO2) can be around 80% and your body acclimates to it !.!. and NO you wouldn't have mental problems !.!.!.

PS: You do not need an inhaler for treating oxygen levels !.!.!. they are not prescribed for that specifically !.!.!.!. although poor airway caliber caused by inflammation or bronchospasm can eventually get to the point that it interupts gas exchange and can reduce PaO2 !.!.!. at this point an inhaler might be an additional therapeutic intervention within the treatment regimenWww@Answer-Health@Com

You do not have mental problems!. When you have low oxygen levels you brain is not getting the amount of oxygen that you need!. This may lead to forgetfulness, feeling dizzy, nausea, fatigue, and other things!. I would recommend seeing a Respiratory Therapist to prescribe an inhaler for daily use!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

low oxygen supply to the brain can cause a person to become confused, disorientated, vague etc, but this quickly resolves if the persons oxygen returns to normal!. Very low (or no) oxygen to the brain for a longer period can cause brain damage!. I have never heard of mental illness being caused by low O2!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

no!. it's a problem with erythrocytes!. red blood cells!. and hemoglobin!. the chemical in red blood cells that bond with oxygen!. it can affect your brain, but not like that!. it could slow your reaction time or make you black out!. but not mental problems!. thats just stupid!. I don't know about mental problems, but you should definitely get that checked out!. You could have sleep apnea or something like that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
