Renal ultrasound for a urinary tract infection?!

Question: Renal ultrasound for a urinary tract infection!?
My 11 year old son had his first UTI this week!.He has never had any problems like this before and the dr wants me to take him for a renal ultrasound!.Why is that!?I mean I would understand if he was having UTIs all the time, but this is the only one he has had!.Is this normal procedure!?I do not trust a lot of doctors, and I feel they run unnecessary tests sometimes, what do you guys think!?I plan on getting the test done, but it just seems odd!.GOD-blessWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
boys esp young boys (and young girls too) arent really supposed to get UTIs!.!. they can but its rare so we do an Ultrasound to ensure that the 'plumbing' is normal and not a reason for the UTIWww@Answer-Health@Com
