How do I get my child to swallow a Nexium Capsule?!
Question: How do I get my child to swallow a Nexium Capsule!?
I have a 4yr old who needs to take this due to GERD and I am having a heck of a time getting her to swallow this!. I have tried opening it and putting it on applesauce-but that didn't work-as she doesn't like applesauce!. We've tried sprinkling it in juice and having her drink it-but most of it sticks to the cup! We have also tried other medications and they are either tablets that are not to be crushed or liquid medicine that tastes awful and she fights us hard when we try to give it to her!. Well, when I was young, I used Previcid packets (sp), and all you did was mix is in water, and it tastes really good actually! You could put the stuff on yogurt, in mashed potatos, or anything that you could sneak it into!. Just don't tell her about it! Talk about the perks of learning how to swallow a pill!.!.!.you don't have to take that nasty liquid or chew the nasty tasting pill!. That was the major perk for me!.!.!.my son HATED any type of medicine!.!.!.tasted horrible to him!.
Sit her in front of you!.!.!.tell her what a big girl is and how proud you are of her for wanting to try!. I showed him by doing it!.!.!.I showed him to put it in the back of the mouth, take a quick drink and the pill will go down with the drink!. Opened my mouth and it was gone!.
Then, it was his turn!.!.!.I talked him through it as he did it!.!.!.passed with flying colors!. His little eyes was wide open, and he screamed!.!.!.Mommy, I didn't taste it! Has been swallowing pills ever since!.!.!.he even taught his younger sister when she turned 4!. I didn't even have to open my mouth!.!.!.he became my little hero!
