Question: What factors helped to speed up the spread of hiv in the early 1980s!?
Answers:
Lack of knowledge-fear-and the assumption that it was a gay disease!. Many people where HIV positive but did not think they could be due to not being gay!. By the end of the 80's gay males were very aware how much at risk they were and started taking precautions, while other groups did not!. After a bit married mens rate started to increase rapidly and then females!. Now one ot the fast growing groups are teenagers!.
Also during the 80's availability of diagnosis and treatment were not as readily available and people were terrified that if they did go for help they would loss everythingWww@Answer-Health@Com

In addition to ReggieR's answer, I would like to add an issue that still exists today: HIV rarely has symptoms soon after infection, but once infected, someone is capable of spreading the virus to others!. Without symptoms, many people continue to have unprotected sex, spreading the virus to others without realizing that they themselves are infected!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
