Diverticular Disease ?!

Question: Diverticular Disease !?
My doc suggests I have diverticular disease ,unconfirmed as I have not had a colonscopy yet
My symptoms are stomach cramps and spasms, diarrhoea, excess wind and generally feeling unwell
This has been going on for over 5 weeks, and I'm still off work because of the pain and regular toilet visits

Is this normal for a presumed diagnosis of Diverticular disease or have I got some other conditionWww@Answer-Health@Com

Hi,

Yes it is likely that you have diverticulosis - but it could be an inflammatory bowel disease such as colitis so getting the colonoscopy done is important!.

Many people have diverticular disease and don't even know it!. When the bowel develops weaknesses or little pouches, they cause no problems unless motion gets stuck in the pouches causing inflammation, pain and sometimes bleeding!. It sounds as if you might need to see your GP again if after 5 weeks you are still suffering so much that you can't go to work!. Bowel spasm can be helped with drugs like Mebeverine, but you may need other treatment to damp the inflammation down too!.

I know one of your answers advises a low fibre diet - normal medical advice is to actually increase fibre in your diet because increased fibre makes it less likely for your motion to collect in the pouches - but again follow the advice given by your GP!.

Good luck - it should settle down soon with the right treatment!.

Best wishes

It could be diverticular disease, it could be crohns it could just be a bacteria in the digestive track, have the colonoscopy done and it will tell you more, try a soft bland food diet, no grease, drink chicken broth, scrambled eggs, potatoes pasta just stay away from, gas causing foods and grease, stay away from fiber as well, good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

You need to follow through on the Colonoscopy or Virtual Colonoscopy!. There is no point in guessing!. If you in fact do have polyups or tears in your Colon you need to address them as if they get really bad the bacteria can spread to other parts of your body!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
