Does cirrhosis of the liver kill?!

Question: Does cirrhosis of the liver kill!?
my daughter of 38 has cirrhosis of the liver but the docs at hospital will not give me answers like how long has she got to live!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
It can be fatal, depending on how serious the damage is and what is causing the damage!. Unfortunately, the reason the docs are not giving you answers as to how long she has to live is because they probably don't know!. Length of life depends on several things, including what I mentioned in my first statement!. I am sorry that I can't give you a better answer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Depends on the cause and whether it is a chronic or acute scenario!.
There are people who live for considerable time with chronic cirrhosis, if it is related to alcohol abuse (as in George Best), then the longer term survival will rely heavily on the patient stopping otherwise the damage will continue and greatly hasten death!.
A patient with acute cirrhosis may be very sick but if they survive their treatment (up to and including transplant) then they stand a good chance of long term survival!.
Dr's are not able to give exact figures as to how long a patient has to live, they might be willing to say if someone has months over years or is days away but each case is different!.
The other possibility is that your daughter may not want you to know exactly what the Dr;s have told her, maybe she is worried about how you might handle things if it looked bad, or maybe ('cos we don't know), your relationship is difficult and she has asked Dr;s not to tell you anything!.
I would suggest that you can get further information about this condition from other sites on the internet or at your local library!.
Hope things go well for both of you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is often very difficult to give an accurate prognosis for any condition and doctors are understandably never keen to be pushed in to an answer that may be wildly inaccurate!.

There are many causes of cirrhosis, but alcohol and hepatitis C are the commonest these days!. If it is alcohol any prognosis will be dependant on whether she has stopped drinking!.

Cirrhosis is certainly potentially fatal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

She could live a long time!. It depends on how advanced it is!. It also depends on what she's doing to help slow the condition!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your liver will clean its self but she has to keep off the alchohol for about 2-4 weeks NONE AT ALL!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This disease is very, very serious!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If she just drinks water from now on, she should live a lot longer!.

Stop her drinking alcohol - it's killing her!Www@Answer-Health@Com
