Do you or your child use a nebulizer?!

Question:

Do you or your child use a nebulizer?

if so, what is the sanitizing solution? one part water and one part vinegar...but how much?? i've had my son's since he was a baby and he's almost five now and we've used it a few times, when his bronchitis flairs up...but i forgot how to sanitize the mask and "bottle." it's been about a year since we've used it and now my daughter was given albuterol to clear her up and our doctor gave her new tubing for it but like i said, i don't remeber how to clean it...can you help me?

Answers:

Yes, you can use one part water/one part vinegar. Rinse the medicine cup in hot water (taking apart the little plastic pieces, there should be 3 to 4 total), then soak them in enough of the vinegar solution so that it's submerged (2-4 cups should be more than enough) for about an hour. Then, rinse it in hot water again, and allow to air dry completely on a paper towel for a few hours. Store in a zip lock bag.

Also, NEVER put the tubing that connects the cup to the air pump- it won't dry out completely and can grow mold. You shouldn't ever need to wash that tubing, anyway. If it gets gross, throw it out.

I'm sorry to contradict other answerers, but DO NOT use bleach. It can irritate delicate airways (the smell might still be there even after rinsing), and it is much more corrosive than vinegar and shouldn't be used on plastic medical equipment. I worked in a hospital for 8 years, and they NEVER used bleach to sanitize.
