Question: Could my 8 year old really have cancer!?
About 3 weeks ago, my son came to me with a lump on his neck!. By the next day it was four!. One had grown to one cm!. The others pearl size!. They did not hurt and were fixed!. I noticed he was sweating alot at night and had a fever(low grade)for a few days, then not for a few days!. The pediatr!. had blood work done and his sedrate was ellevated!. He also itches alot, especially at night!. We scheduled a biopsy, but had bloodwork again and his sedrate went down!. His alp was very high 200 and something!. The dr!. said in kids this is normal!. So, we cancelled the surgery and decided to wait and check blood again in a month!. well, that was a week ago and his fevers came back wednesday night!. He is still having drenching night sweats and itching!.,His stomache is very bloated but she says he is constipated!. She is concerned agin because he is still having all this with no apparent reason!. No sore throat, ear infection!.!.ect! Could he really have lymphoma when all the blood work said he was fine!. I am not trying to freak again and just be patient, but I am worried!. We are going to do biopsy now, but I am once again waiting for that appointment!. What do you think!. Anyone been through this!? Are these the symptoms!? He has lost 6 pounds in 3 weeks, but eats pretty good, most of the time!. thanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Get a second opinion immediately!. He might not have lymphoma but he could have an entirely different type of childhood cancer that is metastatic to the lymph nodes!. He needs a biopsy of the node, you should not have cancelled it!. Your story sounds so familiar to me !. !. I have heard it so many times !. !.you must understand that the doctor is not trying to determine if your son has cancer !. !. he is trying to rule cancer out!. So the doctor will lean on the side of the 'wait and see' approach !. !. wait and see if your son gets worse or if more symptoms crop up !. !. in the mean time you will feel like you are going crazy not knowing what this could be!. This could go on for months!. You have a few options here !. !. you can listen to your sons doctor and take the wait and see approach !. !. or you can be asked to be referred to a major medical center, preferably a children's hospital and have a complete workup done including a biopsy!. Do not rest until you know exactly what is wrong with your son !. !. infection !. !. something unknown !. !. or cancer !. !. don't stop until you have answers!. Call his doctor!. I lost my son to cancer after his pediatrician gave him a physical and clean bill of health !. !. the delays in diagnosis probably cost him his life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My son was diagnosed with wilms tumor in 2005!. The cancer was on his kidney and had spread to his lungs!. There were NO symptoms and his blood work was completely normal!. Please, take him to the nearest children's hospital!. My son had a physical six months before his diagnosis, I thought I had a healthy child!. Better safe than sorry!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Im not sure exactly what the symptoms are, but i'm sure its scary!. However, i do know that if your going to get cancer the best recovery rate is cancer in the lymph nodes, and that what it sounds like its leaning towards!. Best of luck to you i hope everything is okWww@Answer-Health@Com

i dont want to worry you love, but something is not right here!.night sweats and swollen glands are a symptom of cancer you must be out of your mind with worry!.keep on at your doctor for answers and ask to be referred to a consultant!.i really hope its nothing to worry about!.good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I honestly have no clue- I just want to send you well wishes!. Hope he is ok!Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, I have not been through this, but I am educated enough to say that his blood work would show a red flag for cancer, if he had it!. A lot of children often have swollen lymph nodes because they are still developing their immune systems!. My sister had to have one lanced because it never went down!. I understand you are a mother and can't help but worry!. For your own peace of mind, don't put off the biopsy!. Get it over with and go on from there!. Blessed are the children!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My 2 yo daughter had Leukemia this year, although they initially thought she had Lymphoma!. She had swollen neck glands that appeared in a matter of hours!! Doctors told me night sweats were also a common symptom, and she also had a bloated stomach due to enlarged liver and spleen!. The only thing that showed in her blood tests were that she was slightly anaemic and her white cell count was a little low, but no major problems with bloods!. I hope it is nothing for your son, good luck and stay positive no matter what the results tell you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I wouldn't trust the blood-work completely!.!.!.!.I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma at age 14, and my Dr!. had told me that it was just an infection, and then blood-work gave a false-positive for mono!. So my diagnosis of cancer was delayed by months!.
The night sweats, fever, and itching were all symptoms that I had!. Just to be safe, I'd get a referral for a pediatric surgeon, and just have a biopsy done as soon as possible!. It's still possible that it could just be an infection, but It's just not worth waiting any longer to find out!.!.!.I learned that the hard way through my primary care doctor's 6-month delay in getting me sent to a surgeon!.
At your son's age, I would highly doubt that he would have non-Hodgkin's lymphoma!. If he does have either type (Hodgkin's or non), however, survival rates for someone his age, with the disease caught early, are really high!.
Hope I have helped you!Www@Answer-Health@Com
