I have a cold and im a diabetic. my sugar has been around 170 since ive been tak!

Question:

I have a cold and im a diabetic. my sugar has been around 170 since ive been taking some cold medicine read on

the medicine isnt perscribed for diabetics; just the norm. should i stop taking it. and could this be the reason for my high sugars?

Answers:

Yes it probably is the reason for high blood sugar. You just have to weigh the risk to the benefit. A blood sugar level of 170 will not cause sudden death. But of course your goal is to keep it below 120. Now if you only take the med for a few days, the risk of longterm effects are less than if you always run a high blood sugar. So the question to you is..... Is the benefit received from the med worth a few days of high blood sugar? or Is there another medicine that might work just as well that won't rasie your blood sugar? If I were ill and needed a med for a few days, I would take it even if it did raise my blood sugar. The longterm effects are negligible.
