Just about everyone has been infected with EBV (the virus which causes mono) by the time they get to age 30.

Most get it as young children, and don't get sick. For some reason people only seem to get sick with it if they get it as older adolescents or young adults.

You can get a blood test from your doctor to see whether you've already had it. Chances are you have.
