Actually, research in CJD is better than a few years back. It is true that this is a complicated disease with very little incidence. However, the relation between other prion diseases such as BSE (mad cow disease) with CJD and the recent Mad cow disease scare has improved awareness and funding into prion research. The truth is that it is hard to motivate research into a disease with such a long incubation period, little incidence, and difficult diagnosis (a lot of diagnosis is realized after death).
