Fetus throat swab?!

Fetus throat swab?

i work in a cell culture lab and we isolated a parainfluenza type 3 from a throat swab from an intra-uterine death fetus. I have never heard of this before and i was just wondering how is this possible if the fetus never even breathed?

It couldnt be through blood or amniotic fluid because its a respiratory virus. Oh and as for the sweeping floor comment, i am a scientist, i meant the question for other healthcare professionals not bored idiots.

I would have to say it was transmitted through the mother's blood into the fetus.
