Can an eye doctor diagnose and treat pink eye?!
Question: Can an eye doctor diagnose and treat pink eye!?
I'm pretty sure my teenager has pink eye (Happy Monday to us!)!. I know we need to get in to the doctor, but I'm sure our eye doctor would have a shorter wait!.!.!. my 3 year old doesn't wait very well! Anyway, would our eye dr!. need to be an ophthalmologist to do so!? Or can an optometrist do that!? Www@Answer-Health@Com
Answers:
Your eye doctor would be a good first line of defence, but as others have said, could not write a prescription!. Since there are several kinds of pink eye, and bacterial pink eye requires antibiotics, you probably should see your doctor!.

I'm sure an optometrist can diagnose it but couldn't run tests to see if it is either viral or bacterial, and also wouldn't be able to prescribe medication!. Pink-eye, though contagious, will clear up on its own within a week!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
You'd need to see an opthamologist if you can't see your regular pediatrician!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
