Scoliosis surgery?!

Question:

Scoliosis surgery?

i want to have scoliosis surgery, but my parents refuse because it would be risky. the question is,is that true? i dont wear my brace for almost a year and it was 24 degree in september 06. should i get a surgery? how's the pain? and is it risky?

Answers:

I had surgery on my back this past Febuary because of scoliosis. I also had a brace and never wore it...doctors think it would've helped because in about several months my curve was around 35 and it got worse to about 58 degrees!! I ended up going to Rainbow Babies( and it isn't just for babies) and it was a really good choice!! The process of healing took longer than I expected and at times was really painful! But I'm doing a lot better and I feel like I never had the surgery!!! During the surgery they inserted to titanium rods on both sides. And I was in the hospital about 5 days, and it took about 2 months for me to completely recover! It took a lot of patience and I don't know how well you tolerate pain but I'm the worst when it comes to pain! lol but my doctor who performed the surgery was well known for doing the most surgerys on scoliosis!! so my advice to you is if you still have the brace..wear it!! and also do your research on good doctors to perform the surgery.....in my opinion in some ways it is risky but I know in my case as I would get older, I would have a chance of dying because my spine would compress my heart and lungs together!! so i was better off getting it now and I won't get ostoperosis when I older....I also have better posture
I really hope this helps you! Good Luck!
