I have stage 3B lung cancer?!

Question: I have stage 3B lung cancer!?
I was on Chemo for 10 months and Radiation everyday for 4 months!. Both made me horribly physically ill, despondant, and depressed!. My last Chemo was March 08 and Radiation 8/07!. Last month they did some more tests and biopsys!. They found that there are no more live cancer cells in my body and the tumor is still shrinking!. I still have a problem with fluid build up around the lung as the lower and mid lobe of the lung are damaged and collapsed and wont recover!. They are calling it remission!.
My problem!? Why cant I seem to get excited about being in remission!? Its suppose to be a happy time and a good thing!. From what I was told the chances of me going into remission was 20%!. Originally I was given 9 months (from May 07) to live!. What is stopping me from getting excited about this!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Well, first let me say congrats on the remission! But also let me say that when we go through such trauma as you have been through, it is often difficult to just "bounce" back after things start to get better!. For awhile there, you were unsure of what would happen to you!. In fact at one point in your life it was I'm sure a shock to hear that any of this was happening to you!. It sounds to me that you may be depressed!. I'm not a Dr!. of course, but I have had some health issues that will affect me for a life time!. I will take coumadin for life and I get frustrated and scared that if I don't take this stupid pill everyday, then I risk something happening!. You certainly have been through more than me, but the point is you have been something very scary!. Have you told your Dr!. how you are feeling!? I would bet they have heard this many times before from many of their patients who have been through this!. Just don't forget you're a survivor!! Www@Answer-Health@Com

Kimmamarie,
Post radiation and / or chemo depression affects about 60 odd percent of patients!. Some find help with antidepressive drugs and others try to overcome this on their own!. What ever choice that you make, I wish you well!.

I am so pleased to hear your good news!.

Probably you cannot feel excited because you have gone through acceptance now!.

Also the treatments might have dulled your emotions!. For some months earlier this year I had no emotions whatsover!.

I think that the fear of it coming back scares you!. Chemo is a very terrible thing to have to go through!. I remember my mom going through that and it made her so very ill, it was so sad and there was nothing I could do about it!.
The fear of that alone is what is stopping you, I would have to guess!. I know it is easier said than done, but you have too much to live for!. Look at the beauty in the small things!. I really wish I had something wise to tell you, but I don't!. Just don't give up just yet, you need to be strong, there is someone somewhere that really needs you!.
