I need to know a few things about kidney stones?!

Question:

I need to know a few things about kidney stones?

I just found out i have a kidney stone a few days ago. He said on a scale of 1-10, its about a 0.1... but its been almost a week and i havent passed it yet. I still have pain in my side every once in awhile, and he said i would know when i pass it, but i havent felt much pain. I do drink alot of water, and urinate quite often through out the day. So my question is, will i feel it coming on, or will it just start to pass? Also, how long will it hurt afterwards?

Answers:

Alright, you already have heard you'll know when you pass it, so we wont go there, although to be honest with you, .1 is fairly tiny, so you maybe looking at sand once it gets into your urethra. (your urethra is the *tube* that urine travels down to exit your body) Once you've passed the stone there may be some tenderness when you urinate for a few days. Sometimes stones cut the urethra causing a stinging for a few days afterward.
The lesson here is to learn what causes kidney stones. Most of the time is is Uric Acid, look that up. It is found in all kinds of foods, but very heavy in Turkey and Chicken. Uric acid is not BAD for you, however, too much of a good thing.. isnt always good. Lay off the soda, this will cause uric acid to build up in your system, get stored in your kidneys and become sharp little instraments of terror. Also, watch drinking spring water with added minerals. These also calcify causing kidney stones.
Hang tough and let her flow!
Good luck.
