Often this term is used for Transient Ischaemic Attacks (TIAs) which are caused by a transient blockage of a cerebral artery!. This will cause varying symptoms but commonly includes facial or muscle weakness affecting one side, perhaps difficulties in speaking, changes in vision, forgetfulness and other cognitive disturbances!. The key feature of TIAs is that they generally last less than an hour and the patient is fully back to normal afterwards, with no long term affects!.
Patients who experience TIAs should be seen urgently by a doctor or ideally by a neurophysician as they are at very high risk of a full blown stroke which can leave them permanently disabled or even be deadly!. They will be investigated as to the origin of the blockage (nearly always the carotid arteries of the neck or from the heart) and given some medicine to thin the blood and reduce the risk of further TIAs or stroke!.

As people get older they will usually have mini strokes which occur in areas of the brain not much used so no symptoms are manifested physically!. They can be fine functionally, but on a brain scan the areas where the small strokes occurred may be seen!. Several small strokes over several years can eventually lead to problems, the most common of which is vascular dementia if the strokes occur in the memory centres of the brain!. There are not usually any lasting effects from TIA's!. Sometimes if the person is elderly they may have more issues after multiple TIA's but if it only happens a few times in a relatively healthy person there are no lasting effects!. I had a TIA at 23 because of a tiny aneurism!. I am fine and regained all abilities after 4days!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
What symptoms do you still have!? They will go away if it was a true mini stoke (TIA) I had one when I was placed in Jail for 23 hours and they refused to give me my propranolol It took me a few weeks for the double vision to clear up and then I ate some of it!.

yes when suffering from TIAs it can change ones personality and emotional levels!. Also you are from then on at risk for More TIA or a larger Stroke and Heart attack!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
