Question:
I have been early diagnosed w/ stage 3 kidney failure. Can the kidneys get better w/ treatment?
The condition stems from many years of high blood pressure. I am 55 and hope this doesn't lead to dialisys.
Answers:
You very likely have "chronic kidney disease stage 3" which does not get better. (Acute kidney failure can get better, but yours is probably chronic.) The most important thing you can do to prevent having to go on dialysis is get your blood pressure under control and keep it there! Make sure that all of your health care providers know that you have chronic renal insufficiency so that they do not prescribe any meds that could worsen your condition. Avoid NSAIDS - "non-steroidal antiinflammatories" - things like ibuprofen, naproxen, celebrex, etc. Tylenol is okay, but NSAIDS are very hard on the kidneys. Good luck.
