Question: Have you ever had a kidney stone before!? !?
Just wondering what it is like and where exactly the pain is!? What are some symptoms that you had or currently have!? I have had a constant nagging pain on my right side now for about 2 days and sometimes it goes around to my back!. Today when I stood up it felt like a needle was poking me on the inside of me!. I feel like I have to use the restroom a lot, sometimes I can go and sometimes I don't at all!. I don't think it is a bladder infection because I have had those before and this is much different!. I do plan to go to the doctor but just wanted to see what experiences other people have had with this sort of thing and is it painful to pass a stone!? I have heard horror stories and then some people say it is a piece of cake and that the doctor can give you pain meds to make it hurt less!. Anyone have any advice!? Another differential I recommend that you look into is pyelonephritis (inflammation/infection of the kidney), which has many of the associated symptoms you mention - painful urination, pain radiating to the back, bladder tenderness, tender kidney on one side!. You may or may not have fever, headaches, and vomiting!.
NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like ibuprofen (Advil) should be safe in the meantime for the pain!. I highly recommend you go to the doctor for antibiotics as soon as possible; your illness will heal with less fibrous scarring of your kidneys and less complications/recurrence!.
The initial cause of your problem could be a renal stone, or an ascending infection into the kidney!. Either way, you have symptoms of a possible serious infection that could permanently damage your kidney!. Early treatment, and diagnosis will help your case!.
The last thing I would recommend is reading wikipedia on 'Prevention' of future Kidney stones:

I've had 2 kidney stones!. ( female ) You MUST GET TO THE DOCTOR ASAP !! Among other things a stone can do; is block off the kidney completely; to the point the kidney dies!. Also, in my case; I passed a big stone at night so didn't feel it ( thank GOD ); but there was a huge amount of blood loss and that caused scar tissue, that almost closed off the kidney!.!.!.!.the TWO surgeries to fix things were painful and miserable !!
