If you have had gastric bypass surgery, do you feel it was worth it?

What complications did you experience? What all can you eat now and how much? also wondering what type of surgery you had and any other details to help with a decision. Is there counseling you have to go thru first? My husband has a liver problem and was told to consider surgery.

I had gastric bypass surgery on June 5th and it is the BEST thing I've EVER done for my health. I've lost 42 pounds in the past month, I have so much more energy & I look better.

My surgeon told me from the beginning that weightloss surgery IS NOT a magic cure it is only a TOOL. You have to change your attitude, mindset and lifestyle to make the surgery help you.

My procedure was done with the lap rather than an open incision and so I was at home within 4 days and on bed rest for another 14. Each person heals differently, so where some take 6 week I took 2 1/2 weeks.

I can eat a total of 4 ounces --at a time. I have three to four small meals a day I eat protein first, then vegetable and maybe a bite of a starch if I'm still hungry.

EVERYONE should go through a Center of Excellence for the surgery! In preparation for the surgery you will have to see a counselor as well as nutritionist and maybe even attend support groups but it is ALL in your best interest to do these things.

As far as the previous answers you've gotten--yes, people have died and gained weight back--and if you do your research you will see the SAME thing happens to patients who have had the lapband. I have 8 friends who did the gastric bypass and 4 who did the lapband --the ones with the bypass have had better results where three of the four with the lapband have gained their weight back--IT IS DIFFERENT FOR EACH PERSON.
