no its not an std, and you cant catch it!. it is genetic!. my husband has it (dry spots on body) and his grandpa had it!. i have been with him for a few years and it doesnt do anything to you!. your friend is probably self consious about it so try not to bring it up or anything Www@Answer-Health@Com
