diabetes mellitus is a disorder in which there is too much sugar in the blood!. It is caused by a lack of an important hormone called insulin, which is made by the pancreas!.
There are two types of diabetes, Type 1 is known as juvinile-onset diabetes or insulin-dependant diabetes mellitus!. It occurs mainly in young people, and because their pancreas's produce very little insulin they require insulin injections!. The cause is not known exactly!.
Type 2 diabetes is known as maturity-onset diabetes or non insulin dependant diabetes mellitus!. It mainly affects people over 40, many of whom are overwieght and have a diet of excess calories!. It is mainly controlled by a proper diet only, but often tablets may have to be used!. Insulin may be needed also for ultimate control!. (I am a 50 year old male who has just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes)
The classic symptoms of untreated diabetes are,
* Excessive and frequent urination
* Excessive thirst
* Loss of weight (mainly type 1)
* Tiredness, lack of energy

Diabetes is usually hereditary!. Obesity can play a factor in it also, although even if nobody in your family has ever had it and if you are not obese, you can still get it!. It is a condition where your body doesn't produce enough insulin!. Go to Google and search it!.
