Question:

Proteus OX-19, Antigeno paratifico A, Antigeno paratifico B, tifico O, tifico H?

A friend in Mexico tests positive for the above bacteria. I understand that these tests are no longer used in the US. What tests are used in the US and can the same be found in Mexico? Does testing positive mean you still have the bacteria or have had it in the past?

Answers:

Generally positive test is a serological test meaning you have antibodies to the bacteria. It is most likely result of a past infection but in some cases it could still be a low grade infection
