Recent muscle twitching?!

Question:

Recent muscle twitching?

For the last month or so I have noticed random muscle twitches all over, and they usually on last a few seconds. I havent been too active, and I commute alot. IS this something to be concerned about?

Answers:

These little muscle spasms are called "tics". There is a little gap, called a synapse, between the endings of each nerve and the start of the next. There is a conductive fluid around these which helps the message jump from one nerve to the next and continue the journey along the neural pathway. One of the main ingredients which make up this fluid is potassium. If the balance of potassium is not quite right, the fluid is not conductive enough for the message to be carried over the gap. It stops at the end and just keeps trying to get across. That is what causes the tic.
The usually are more of an annoyance than anything but if you are concerned, it might pay to consult a health professional.
