MS stands for multiple sclarosic!. (this meens many scars)!. there is not definate way of catching the desease!. It is said that like cancer we all have the make up in our bodies to get it!. It is up to fate if you catch it nothing more!. There are no ways of preventing it!.

MS attacks the nervous system, that being the nerves that send electrical signals from your brain to the body and back again!. As a result of ms the nerves get damaged and form scars and scar tissue!. i is this scarring that causes electrical sygnals from the brain to get messed up!. for example if you or i were to pick up a cup our brain would tell us to move our arm and grip the cup to pick it up!. However an ms suffers brain would send the same signals as us and they could get mixed up making it difficult to move in a way that they want to!.

Sometimes ms can effect the nerves that control the immune system so if you or i got a cold or flue we would get better in a matter of days, but an ms suffer will more than likely be very very ill and it could take some time to recover!.

Basically although in the early stages of ms a person can seem very normal, as time goes by and the scar tissue builds up on the nerves the things that you or i take forgranted become very difficult even though they may not admit it!.

My mother has the same desease and the best thing i can do is help out as much as i can, dont wait to be asked to do something just do it!. Also watch all of the things she does around the house or out and about and next time she is going to do them help her out!. Because each time she has to exert her self there is a chance of more scars occuring meking her a little bit worse!.

Don't do everything for her though she has to have a life of her own, just love her and always be there for her!. Also the sooner you can accept that she will not be around for as long as other mums the better just love, love, love, love, love her and things well seem that little bit better for her!.

I hope this helped and if you want anymore advise please let me know!.

Multiple sclerosis is a disease where patches of inflammation occur in parts of the brain and/or spinal cord!. This can cause damage to parts of the brain and lead to symptoms!.

MS is thought to be an auto-immune disease!. When the disease is active, parts of the immune system, mainly cells called T-cells, 'attack' the myelin sheath which surrounds the nerve fibres in the brain and spinal cord!. This leads to small patches of inflammation!.
Something may 'trigger' the immune system to act in this way!. One theory is that a virus, or another factor in the environment, triggers the immune system in some people with a certain genetic make-up!.
There is no cure for MS, but treatments can often help!. Treatments generally fall into four categories;

Drugs that aim to modify the disease process!.
Steroid medication to treat relapses!.
Drugs to help ease symptoms!.
Other therapies and general support to minimise disability!.
