Insurance and test strip limit?!

Question: Insurance and test strip limit!?
when i was first diagnosed in august 2008, i went to the pharmacy to pick up my test strips and lancets like the dr prescribed!. first they told me that the insurance would cover only 150 strips in three months!. i told them that my doc wanted me to test at least 2x day!. that would mean that i would need at least 180!. a few hours later i received a call from the pharmacy that my doctor had signed some paper and that they would give me 200 a month!. i went in twice this past month and they told me the same thing, but when i went yesterday to pick up more a different lady told me that only 150 was approved and she doesnt know why they were giving me more, i had receive 5 boxes of 50 each which is 250 in less that three months and that i couldnt get anymore until mid november!.i argued with her about what was explained to me in the past and she said that there was nothing she could do, she was just following what the insurance website said they would cover, and that anything that the doctor signed didnt matter!. just to mention i have insurance with badgercare,, mercycare with the state of wisconsin!. and i am not insulin dependent!.
what i dont understand is that was a problem, why did i receive so many strips without a problem until this lady!? dont you think that they would have caught it in the past!. and i dont know what i should do if i am running low on strips and dont have money to buy them, its about 50-60 dollars a box!. is there something my doctor can do to approve more strips to where it is that he wants me to test!? i know he got the januvia approved when the insurance didnt want to cover!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Skip the pharmacy and call the insurance company directly!. I test 6-10 times a day and they can't say a thing!. They cannot deny you these thing and they should honor what your doctor orders!. Also, maybe consider a different pharmacy!. Something doesn't make sense here!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The Dr can approve/write for any prescription he likes, it is up to the insurance company how much (if any) they will pay!. The Dr does not determine that!. Consider yourself lucky if you got extra strips at no charge for 3 months!. You should have a little supply built up if you were receiving 70 extra strips for 3 months, look online for strips, they are often less expense than the pharmacy if you have to purchase themWww@Answer-Health@Com

you should get med cal!. its better i get the amount of everything i want!. when i want!. i had 12 boxes of 50 sent to my house!. anyways tell your doctor to write a better prescription like has to test 4 to 6 times a day because honestly 2 time is not enough!. you should check before every meal and right before bed time!. doesnt that insurance have co-payments!? and if your running low go to your doctor and he might have sample boxes he can give to you!. your doctor is going to take care of you until you get things strait, at least mine does!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Two tests a day is NOT enough to know where your blood sugar is going!. If your insurance isn't going to cover more than 50 a month, you absolutely need to buy more out of pocket!. american diabetes wholesale (online) sells accu-check aviva strips at 63$ for 63$, which is a pretty good deal!. If you go into walmart stores, and buy the reli-on meter, you can get 100 strips for under 50$!.

You definately need to call your DOCTOR and get him to prescribe a LOT more strips, and then call your insurance- as often as possible- to get coverage for the greater amount!. But in the mean time! pay out of pocket for strips! Testing is very, very important as a diabetic!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
