Does anyone know what a positive HLA DR15 lab test may mean? I'm being referred !


Question:

Does anyone know what a positive HLA DR15 lab test may mean? I'm being referred to a hematologist?

I had lab work done and found I was anemic, my doctor ordered further tests and the HLA DR15 came back positive. He is sending me to hematologist.


Answers:

HLA DR15 can be associated with an increased risk of multiple sclerosis, as well as myelodysplastic syndrome or aplastic anaemia. I wouldnt worry too much, it could just be anaemia but you have a good doctor who is trying to make sure. Plus it just means there is an increased risk, not that you have it, just as being female increases your risk of breast cancer! Here are some links if you want to find out more:
