Answers:
Generally speaking yes - they give you rifampin or Cipro as a prophylaxis against bacterial meningitis, which can be from a number of bacteria!. Neisseria meningitidis is by far the most contagious!. Streptococcus pneumoniae is another, and until more recently Haemophilus influenzae was a big cause!. All three of these have vaccines for them now, and N!. meningitidis and H!. flu are fairly rare!. There are several others that can cause meningitis but they are generally in the immuno-compromised, not the general public!.
I wouldn't worry too much unless you had symptoms such as severe neck and head pain, fever, sensitivity to light, rash, etc!. Neck pain that hurts when you move your head up and down but not really left and right is the main sign!. Were you to have this, go to the ER ASAP!.
Prophylactic antibiotics do their job fairly well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It depends on if they have viral or bacterial meningitis!. The antibiotics will do nothing against viral!. It depends on how close and how contaigous the person was, and if any saliva was exchanged (via talking, coughing, sneezing)!. Even if you contract it, chances are you can receive treatment and be fine!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
