How common are strokes?!
Question: How common are strokes!?
Are they common!? And why do they cause so much damage!? My grandma had a massive stroke before i was born and she lost her speech and she was disabled!. My mom had a massive stroke when i was 14!. She lost her speech, She was paralyzed, She had no idea who i was after she had the stroke and she was brain dead!. What are the main causes of strokes!? And how can i prevent having one!? Sorry to hear about your family!. Yes, strokes are genetic!. Since you have a mother and grandmother who has been stricken with it you are definitely at risk (not to scare you)!. Strokes are caused by 2 things - a bleed (hemorrhagic) and a blockage!. A Hemorrhagic stroke is caused by a bleed in the brain either by trauma or spontaneous rupture of weakened vessels!. Most strokes are of the second type and are caused by a blockage!. Usually in the carotid arteries - the main vessels that take oxygen rich blood to the brain!. The blockage is caused by plaque (cholesterol) or a blood clot!. When the brain goes without oxygen for a few minutes that part of the brain "dies"!. That is where the deficits come in to play (speech, movement, etc) The best thing you can do is to take care of yourself, eat right, exercise, etc!.
