Young Adult Female with Severe Chest Pains?!

Question:

Young Adult Female with Severe Chest Pains?

I am a 25 year old, 5'8 118lb. female who has struggled with intense chest pains for about 2 years. They aren't constant, and don't seem to have a specific time that they happen. I can't tie them back to any specific food that I eat, or activity that I do. I've had test after test after test, and the doctors say my heart and lungs are perfectly healthy, but these pains are so intense! My fingers and toes turn blue, too...not always at the same time as my chest pains, but sometimes they do come at the same time. I am otherwise quite healthy, and have been an athlete all my life. Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Answers:

Have you ever been checked for mitral valve prolapse? This is often a difficult condition to diagnose, but it can have symptoms very similar to the ones you're describing. It's not usually something that regular tests will find, and it's usually not serious, although the symptoms can be very disturbing.

Have a look at the above website, and see if this sounds anything like what you're experiencing. If it does, then you would need to find yourself a really good cardiologist. The doctor should listen closely to your heart for a slight clicking sound, and if he hears one, you might have MVP.
