Answers:
I'm very sorry to hear that!. I know the feeling!. My oldest sister died of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy when she was 35!. I have it!. My mother has it!. The rest of my siblings have symptoms that could be because of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, but refuse to get tested because they aren't as bad off as I am!. Therefore they must not have this condition, they tell me!.

To put it quite simply the wall between chambers in my heart has thickened at the lower part of the heart!. It changes the shape of at least one chamber a little and the valves become less effective at keeping blood going one direction!. As well at least one chamber is smaller and less effective at moving blood!.

The result is that blood doesn't move in me as well as it should!. I can walk on a flat surface without problems!. I can do anything with my arms that anyone else can!. I can't run, or rather if I do run, I need to lay down and let the extreme dizzy spell pass!. In which case I might spend 10 minutes in agony following a short 200 meter sprint!. I don't last more than a minute on trampolines before I have problems!. The doctors call it shortness of breath!. All I know is my legs grow heavy, then the heaviness moves to my chest, and I turn dizzy!.

At age 26 my oldest sister couldn't walk more than 20 yards at a slow pace by herself before she had surgery!. The expanding flesh was filling in an opening to an artery in her!. Afterward she got the idea in her head that she would know if she has a relapse and she stopped getting regular testing done!. Then at 35 she suffered a sudden attack of probably ventricular fibrillation, but we don't know for sure as she didn't survive it!.

It is a condition that can kill in two ways!. The heart muscle can expand until the heart just gives out or blocks a artery and a person can suffer ventricular fibrillation, the heart pumps so fast that no blood is moved!. A pacemaker/defibrillator unit can correct the later of the two problems!. There are two surgical procedures that can treat the expanding muscle, but I'm not likely to get surgery unless it threatens my life!.

I strongly urge you and any siblings or children you have to get tested!. A echocardiogram will show if there is a problem developing and how bad it is!. Please do get tested!. Only a diagnostic test can tell the difference between someone out of shape or just tired, and someone who has this condition!.

If you, your siblings, or children have a heart murmur, then you might as well assume you have this condition until proven otherwise!. It is that serious!. And any doctor can hear a heart murmur, it is just a sound they listen for in any checkup!.

well Hypertrpoic means there is too much fluid in and around the heart!. Cardiomyopathy means that the heart isn't pumping correctly!. So there for the heart isn't pumping the excess fluid out!.
