After WW2 when all the surviving British soldiers returned home, many of them suffered for many years from physcological trauma and what we would now call post traumatic stress disorder. A later study was carried out about the soldiers who needed physcological treatment and it found they were overwhelmingly non-smokers during the war. This was more suprising as the majority of soldiers smoked during the war. Does smoking help your mental health in times of great stress?
