does it hurt the first week?

You should NEVER use Alcohol, Peroxide, Ointments, creams, or anything like that on your ears. It is best to clean your ears with a non-iodized sea salt solution. put 1/2 tsp. into a bottle of water, shake it up, and then heat up some of the solution as hot as you can get it without burning yourself. Soak your ear in this for at least 10 minutes, and it will help alleviate any irritation. This should also keep the piercing clean and free of infection. It will be sore for a while, and you should avoid sleeping on the piercing, as hard as it may seem. DO NOT PLAY WITH YOUR PIERCING!!!! Your hands are covered in bacteria and this will make you vulnerable to infection. Otherwise, enjoy your new piercing!! If you have any questions or your piercing swells or has pus you should GO TO A PROFESSIONAL PIERCER!!!!! They will know how to help you and if necessary will direct you to go to your doctor for further treatment. Good luck!!!
