Does it matter whether it's type 1 or 2? Do you vomit from both?

Actually, vomiting is not necessarily a symptom of diabetes, but if a person has T1 then it could be a severe symptom of DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis). Sometimes a person will already be in DKA before a diagnosis is made! That is one of the main reasons of death in T1s. Their blood sugars have gone high without knowlege and their blood has become acidic due to the burning of ketones.
Type 2s don't usually go into DKA unless they have been ill and dehydrated. But Vomiting is one of the first symptoms of DKA.
If this person has no other explanation for the vomiting, then I would recommend them to check their sugar. Maybe on a family member's meter if there are any members with diabetes.
