Diabetes and Orange Juice -- I'm Confused?!

Question: Diabetes and Orange Juice -- I'm Confused!?
I always heard that orange juice is the worst thing for raising blood sugar!. There was an article in today's paper that said citrus will reverse diabetes and recommended two glasses of oj a day!. Anybody know what the truth is!? BTW, this was a legitimate newspaper, not something like the Enquirer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
OJ is ised to raise low blood sugar, and does it very well!.

Type 1 diabetes can not be reversed!. Type 2 can be held off or controlled with a healthy diet and exercise (and medications oif needed)!. OJ can be a part of a healthy diet!.

Surprisingly, not a lot of people in diabetic risk groups actually buy 100% juice, or even eat fruit, partly because the expense!. I know I can't afford fresh fruit any more like I used to!.

Part of why I think the idea of removing sodas from school machines and filling them with juice to "revent" diabetes is misguided, since type 2 children can have diet soda, all 12 oz, but not the same in juice because of the sugar content!.

Without seeing the article no one can determine whether or not the information was paraphrased wrong, information left out, or based on what study!. Some newpapers (and reporters), even though they are ligitimate, aren't not that good at accurate reporting of information!. It's sad enough that there are so many grammar errors on every page these days!.

Nutritional Healing by James F!. Balch, MD!. page 230 - Diabetes subheading Recommendations reads:
"Eat a high-complex-carbohydrate, low-fat, high-fiber diet including plenty of raw fruits and vegetables as well as fresh vegetable juices!." Of the long list of don't that is listed NONE said to avoid orange juices!.

Back To Eden page 322 under the Heading Diabetes; subheading Diet
"Use all kinds of fresh fruits that are ripened in the sun, such as strawberries, ORANGE, apricots, currants, blueberries, peaches, pears, pineapples, apples, lemons, red raspberries, huckleberries, grapefruit, cherries, and limes!."

"Fruits should never be sweetened with sugar!. Cane sugar, raw or natural brown sugar, and all sugar syrups are harmful!. The natural sugar contained in grapes and other fruits is beneficial!."

"Eat as many fruits and vegetables as possible!."

So there you have it!. It is safe to have your orange juice!. Fruit sugar assimilates slower than processed sugar and so it is very safe!. I know some of these oranges can be very sweet!. If your juice is too sweet for your taste, then you can always dilute it with water!.

I highly doubt a claim like "citrus will reverse diabetes"!. Do you have a link to the article!?

Orange juice will raise my blood sugar like the very devil!. It's great if you're having a low blood sugar and need it raised FAST but it won't cure you of anything but having too much insulin in your system!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

defininetly not the worst thing!. Its actually very good (I'm diabetic, works like a charm)!. And its a little better for you than just chugging straight up glucose tabs ;-)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
