Question: Red line going up my arm getting wider!?
I have a hangnail that had turned into what looks like blood poisoning!. It has stopped going up my arm about half way!. I drew around to see if it was growing and it had not been going up my arm only much wider!. I have visited a doctor yesterday and they froze my thumb and cut the hangnail!. I have been put on antibiotics but my neighbor is a nurse and she said that they were not strong enough since the red line is growing!. Should I be concerned, and but infection is it called!?!?!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

The technical term for what you have is cellulitis, an inflammation of the tissues caused by an infection!. Hopefully, the doctor cultured your wound (took a sample and sent it to the lab) so he can figure out exactly what germ is causing the infection!. This is the best way to decide which antibiotic is best, because different germs are killed by different antibiotics!.
Culture results can take a few days, however, so your doctor is wise to put you on an antibiotic before he knows exactly which germ it is!. Continue to keep a close watch on the red mark!. It was a good idea for you to draw a line around it so you can tell for sure if the red area is growing!.
If the redness continues to grow or if you develop other symptoms like fever or increased pain, go back to your doctor!. In that case, you very well might need a stronger antibiotic!.
