What food are good for diabetics?!


Question: What food are good for diabetics!?
i read that some things can be good like fruits (oranges, apples, grapes) and then in other articles it says it's bad!. it's like there is nothing really safe to eat for diabetics! i'm really frustrated as i'm trying to change my diet since i have slightly elevated glucose and do not want to get diabetes!Www@Answer-Health@Com

My doctor gave me some guidelines and I follow a simple phrase to remember it!.

Avoid the whites (sugar, white flour, white rice, potatoes, etc!. [Carbs])
Avoid meats with fur!.
Eat meats with feathers or fins!.

Fruits effect different people differently!. My wife and I both have diabetes and we can both eat apples!. But grapes push us both high on our glucose testing!. My wife can eat oranges but I can't!. Some of this is trial and error learning!. If you have a glucometer, you can see what foods do what to you!. You can normally get a glucometer for free but the test strips are what cost!. Most strips are about $1!.00 each!. Wal-mart has an inexpensive meter and strips that cost much less if you want to test yourself!. In the US you don't need a prescription to purchase these items unless you're trying to get insurance to pay for them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have a mother who is diabetic since I was a small child so here are some steps to keep yourself from becoming diabetic or if you already have diabetes:
1!. Eat veggies and fruit: They are a much better alternative to candy, if you already have diabetes monitor your intake of sweet fruits(ex: Plums and Peaches)
2!. Use Splenda or Equal: These are the two best artificial sweeteners for diabetics, I would avoid Sweet and Low, it is made from a chemical that can cause cateracts!.
3!. Eat in Moderation: It is better to eat many small meals than 2 or 3 large meals!.
4!. Wheat, Rye, or Pumpernickel: These should be your 3 main choices of Bread always!. Avoid white bread as much as possible!.

So remember just check the labels, if it has to much sugar put it back!. Always look for alternatives, and know the difference between no sugar added, sugar free, sugar reduced, fat free, diet, light, etc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

To stay healthy as a diabetic, you should eat mostly vegetables and lean meats!. You can eat certain fruits if your blood sugar level is well-maintained!. These are fibrous fruits such as apples!. But, mind you, you have to check your blood sugar levels after eating to see if you can tolerate the sugar safely!.

Try drinking chamomile tea every day!. Recent research has shown that daily consumption of chamomile tea helps to control blood sugar and reduce complications from diabetes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Like everyone else, us diabetics can eat whatever we want!.
Sure it may not be healthy but we can have whatever we want, just as long as we take insulin to control our blood sugar levels!. Although as others have mentioned it would be better to eat healthy, eat food from every food group such as fruits, grains, meats, dairy & veggies!.
If you are like me and you tend to snack alot here are some good ideas for snacks (no carbs)
-diet candy, pop, jello, gum ect!.
-crystal light
-cheese
-vegetables

Natural foods are good!. In moderation of course, and in balance with other foods!. Spoiled eaters, the ones who only eat what they want, are the ones who develop type 2 diabetes!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

ask your dr to give you a referral to a dietitian they will tell you what you can and cannot eat as well as portion sizes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
