How long does it take to get blood "normal" after Venofer injections?!

Question:

How long does it take to get blood "normal" after Venofer injections?

I was diagnosed very anemic and had to have 8amps of Venofer injected over a period of a week. One week later and my blood test results are still not high enough for surgery. How long do I have to wait? Is there anything I can do to assists the process? exercise, iron tablets, specific diet??? Help!

Answers:

It depends on how low your haemoglobin (blood) level was before you were given treatment, and what level the doctors consider to be acceptable for your surgery (this will depend on how your health is and what the surgery you are having involves).

Venofer is an injectable form of iron and takes at least 2 weeks to raise your haemoglobin level by 1g/dl.

There is very little you can do to assist the process. I would avoid other iron supplements. You should also be on a drug called erythropoietin. Ask your doctor about this if you are not, as this will help to improve your blood level.
