I used to have this problem!. It's important to take your insulin before you start to eat, because blood sugars can go up quickly!. I have 2 possible solutions for you!.
1- Take all the insulin and if you're full before you've eaten everything you've planned on, then drink some juice do make up for the rest of the sugar!. I find that liquids don't fill me up as quickly, maybe it's the same for you!?
2- My doctor suggested that I give myself a shot of possibly half of what I'm going to eat before I do, just to take care of the initial influx of sugar!. Then if you get full after half, you're fine!. If you want to still eat more, then take more insulin and go at it again!.

Both of these worked well for me!.

I'm now on a pump and it's fantastic, but I know it's not for everyone!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Idea 1: Before taking food take half of the bolus insulin you decided, then have your food!. Immediately after food take the balance bolus if required as per the carbohydrate taken!.

Idea 2: Before taking food take the full bolus insulin you decided, then have your food!. If you are not able to have the food as you decided then compensate with having juice!.

Bolus, then eat!.

YOU have to have the self discipline to do what you are told!. If you count the carbs and adjust the meds, then you MUST stick with the plan!.

You need to give the shot first, because it take 15-30 minutes before it is absorbed!. but when you eat, the sugar from the foods goes into your blood system almost immediately (like 5 minutes)!. So you need to time that shot so that it is most active while you are eating!.

It's all a matter of self -discipline!. Now that you have a deadly disease, you must own it, rather than letting it own you!. Take charge of your life, listen to the doctor, and follow his orders exactly!. if you make a decision to eat a certain amount of carbs -- EAT THEM! Don't skip, because you've already taken the associated insulin!.

Don't take the insulin AFTER you eat, because that makes the timing wrong, and every minute your blood sugar is high you do more damage, irreparable damage, to your body!.

Yeah, it stinks, but you have to commit to what you eat!. It's important to take the insulin first, so it can start working before you ingest those faster-acting carbs!. They let us do post-meal insulin with our daughter because she was 3 and it's near impossible for a toddler to commit to a meal at that age!. Plus!.!.!. 3 year olds are no dummies! She learned fast that if she declined half her meal I would need to make it up with something!. She'd hold out for candy!. So for a couple years we did post-meal, and moved to Humalog, which works just the teeniest bit faster than Novalog!. The payback was in her readings 90 minutes later though!.

She's 6 years old now, and takes insulin pre-meal now, and it's a safer way to manage diabetes!.

If you really want to do it post meals, no one will be able to talk you out of it, so I'd suggest moving to Humalog, and doing half a bolus before a meal and half after (that won't be a big deal if you're on a pump, but if you're doing injections, you might want to think this over!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Diabetes is a very confusing disease!. Do you have a diabetes america near you!? Even a hospital diabetes person (educator) would be the way to go!. As a nurse we give insulin before someone eats, but according to their blood sugar!. However, with a pump you eat and count your carbs and then program the pump to give you the insulin!.

Seriously, get some quality education about the disease that works best for YoU!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
