38% chance of survival?!
Question: 38% chance of survival!?
My grandad has a 38% chance of survival from bowel cancer!. Is this OK or terrible!. Im soo worried

LOVE him with all your heart!. CHERISH the moments you have with him!. You will be thankful if you do!. I know how it feels to lose a loved one to cancer!. Last year my aunt died at the age of 24!. She got cancer when she was only 10 and battled it for 14 years!. Out of all of my almost 30 cousins, I was the closest to her!. It hurt to lose her!. I have tears in my eyes right now as Im writing this!. Shortly after my aunt died, my great-grandma passed away, who I was also close to!. Like I said before: LOVE him with all your heart!. Prognosis is the long-term outlook or survival after therapy!. Overall, about 50% of patients treated for colon cancer survive the disease!. As expected, the survival rates are dependent upon the stage of the cancer at the time of diagnosis, making early detection crucial!.
About 15% of patients present with stage I disease and 85-90% survive!. Stage II represents 20-30% of cases and 65-75% survive!. 30-40% comprise the stage III presentation of which 55% survive!. The remaining 20-25% present with stage IV disease and are rarely cured!.

Enjoy the time you have with him!. Doctors do not generally give people an actuall percent or a time frame because it is just not good for the emotional side of the person!. I would say this is probably not a good sign, but people have gotten better with worse "odds"!. Doctors can not predict the future, they only go off of what they have seen in the past!. Don't give up on him, but prepare yourself for the worst in private just in case!.
I would say the doctor treating him is either old school, or was pressed by your grand dad to tell him a percentage!.
My docs (when pressed) said I have a 50/50 chance of living another 30 years!. Well, I probably have a 50/50 chance of getting hit by a car in the next 30 years too, so that was a useless number!.
Like I said, enjoy the time you have with him now, and try to be there for him while he goes through treatments and such!.

I am currently at about a 35% five year survival!. I really do go between wanting to make long term plans to being afraid of making any commitments!. I recently finished radiation and another surgery!. I am hopeful as time passes I can be more optimistic!.
You must realize those numbers are usually correct, but individually they do not mean much!. This is the key!.
He just wants a happy grandchild, nothing more!. Just love him love as he loves you!.

first ,and fore most thing, is killer disease ,cancer of bowel-- in that only 38%, is less than 50%-----these all put to gather this does not give any good idea ,better consult your surgeon, on improving the general health and doing good, to the patient-----read---www!.annalssurgericalo!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
