How fast can hiv become aids?!

Question: How fast can hiv become aids!?
I know the average, but how fast, at the fastest, is hiv likely to become aids, and what's the prognosis after that!? I ask because my best friend says his cell count is at aids level after only four years of having hiv, but that his viral load is undetectable because he just started medication!. He tends to blow things out of proportion sometimes, but he did smoke meth for a while while he was sick, and didn't get treatment until now!. So could he be telling the truth!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
It is entirely individual!. There are well-documented cases where people have been infected and died of AIDS within 6 months!. In contrast, one of my patiens was infected by a transfusion at birth, and is now 23 years old and completely well, NEVER having been given any medication at all!.

You know the average -- that the average person loses 120 CD4 cells/ year without HIV treatment, but there is such a huge range, as I've mentioned above, that just about anything is possible!. Sure it's possible for your friend to have a CD4 < 200 only 4 years after getting infected with HIV, but that is certainly more rapid a CD4 decline than average!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

he's probably telling the truth!. hiv can turn into aids after 6 months!.!.!.it depends on many factors: lifestyle, general health otherwise, when he really acquired hiv!.

Also, something i just learned today, just because the viral load is undetectable doesn't mean that he is in the clear!. it means that the viral load was undetectable where it was tested!. (usually the blood, but that doesn't mean the virus isn't in the brain or spinal fluid)!. I say that to emphasize the importance of continuing the meds and to follow up with treatment and it would be good if he could get a case manager to help him!.

The prognosis is hard to say, as it depends on so many factors!. even though he has been diagnosed with aids, he can still live a very long time, but its important to take the medication and to take the medication correctly!. the minute he stops a medication, he will not be able to take that particular medication again, because the virus is that quick to develop resistance!. so, his best bet is to take care of himself and to stay on the medications, despite the side effects!. it is imperative that they get treatment immediatly and stick to a very strict medication regimen to stay healthy!. his cell levels may return to a more normal level after medication but he must stick to this or it caan become aids very quicklyWww@Answer-Health@Com

Wow!.!.!. I hate people with problems xDWww@Answer-Health@Com
